The Dentzel Carousel at Ontario Beach Park
Upper and Lower Inside Scenery Panels

National Carousel Association Logo © Marie Poinan
Date of picture: May 2005
To the casual observer, a merry go round is just a ride. Those appreciative of fine craftsmanship might look at the animals to admire the artistry of Gustav Dentzel. But those who are familiar with carousels appreciate the fact that the shields, the rounding boards and the gears are of equal importance on a carousel.

Our carousel has two inner rows of paintings that are located over the carousel’s operating gears. They are oil on canvas and depict people in period costume and pastoral scenes from the early 20th century. All were carefully cleaned as part of the restoration effort, allowing their beauty and vibrant details to shine through.
